Youth Dragon Boat events are ideal for scouts, guides, armed forces cadets, young farmers, schools, colleges, youth groups and other youth organisations. The activity requires no previous experience to compete; it’s exciting, colourful and entertaining, and unrivalled by any other activity. Our event format has been designed and structured to ensure that all participants gain excellent team building, self motivation and interpersonal skills
Event / Activity Format & Numbers
Racing Events & Activity Sessions consist of teams, with the number of members in a team ranging from 11 – 21 people. Each team has a drummer, to beat a steady rhythym and therefore an odd number is required for one person to be the drummer.
At racing events each team has a minimum of 3 races, where they race against other teams over a 200 meter race course. The fastest teams go through to the Grand Final. Chinese Dragon trophies and presented to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd placed teams; the winning team also receives specially designed Dragon Boat medals.
At activity sessions each team learns the history of dragon boat racing, the legend of Qu Yuan, completes a dry land safety and technique briefing, including paddling commands and safety procedures. On the water: practice paddling, improving timing & team work then competitive racing finishing each session with fun dragon games – “tug a dragon”. Dry land de-brief and summery of session with group Q&A element. Each of our scout activity sessions is structured to the scout dragon boat badge, activity session certificates are awarded to each scout on successful completion of the session.
Events range in size from 6 teams to 60 teams per a one day event, Activity sessions range in size from 2 to 10 teams per session, up to 4 sessions per day. (Subject to venue suitability).
Venue
Where there is water, there is an event! Any lake, reservoir, dock, canal, river, sheltered harbour, marina, (subject to venue suitability) with good vehicle access! Recommended venues available nationwide. Comprehensive site surveys undertaken.
