Deloitte Dragon Boat Challenge – Surrey Docks Water Sports Centre, 8th September 2016
Deloitte is a global network of independent firms where tens of thousands of professionals collaborate to provide audit, consulting, financial advisory, risk management, tax, and related services to select clients.
On 8th September 2016, 50 Deloitte delegates arrived for a team-building experience they won’t forget. Divided into four creative teams — Usain Boat, Yeah Buoy, Boaty McBoat Face, and The Gold Standard – they competed on the water at Surrey Docks Water Sports Centre with one goal: to be the best in the company!
The day kicked off at 3:30pm with brief introductions, followed by a warm welcome from a senior company partner, who ended with an enthusiastic “May the best team win!” – immediately setting the tone for friendly rivalry.
Safety and technical briefings followed, with competitors suiting up in buoyancy aids and grabbing their paddles. Race The Dragon instructors gave clear demonstrations and shared expert tips on technique, helping everyone get ready for the water.
Once on the water, the competitive spirit came alive. Teams quickly developed tactics and strategies, racing head-to-head along the Surrey Docks course. With some Olympic-style determination on the way to the start line, performance improved dramatically – times dropped from an average of 1:01:35 in the first round to an impressive 0:56:43 in the final sprints!
After the action-packed races, an awards ceremony celebrated the winning team, Yeah Buoy, who took home the trophy and medals for their excellent performance. The celebrations continued with a full BBQ banquet and a well-stocked bar of wine, beer, and water – the perfect way to relax and socialise after the excitement on the water.
