Entry Level Course

A personal skills-based award the foundation entry designed for persons who are new or relatively new to the activity of dragon boating, an essential foundation one-day course combining both practical and theoretical elements including:

Introduction to Dragon Boat, history and values
Introduction of paddle techniques and styles
Understanding the importance of positioning in the boat
Water confidence and paddling in different areas.
Personal Water Safety drills
Buddy System & Capsize Recovery drills (self-recovery)

No instructor, helming or coaching elements are in the entry-level foundation course.

Level 1 Course

A personal skills-based award for persons who wish to become dragon boat instructors. Persons must demonstrate a basic / (entry-level) understanding of dragon boating. A two-day course combining both practical and theory of both helming and coaching examples of elements of this course include:

Understanding In-depth Dragon Boat history and culture
Technical aspects of the activity
Coach a corporate training session demonstrating progress during the session
Helm a corporate training session demonstrating boat control
Boat Care & Communication
Personal Water Safety drills
Buddy System & Capsize Recovery drills (self-recovery and assisted)
Awareness, understanding & Acknowledgement of Risk
