Dover Regatta Dragon Boat Race

The Dover Regatta is set for Saturday 6 July 2024!
With adrenaline-fueled dragon boat racing on the water and landside attractions for the whole family, the Dover Regatta is not to be missed

Dragon Boating is great fun and ideal for complete novices as no previous experience is necessary. It’s quick to pick up and suitable for almost all abilities. A dry land safety briefing takes place before each team’s first race, professional helms (steerspersons) dragon boats, paddles, buoyancy aids (life jackets) and water rescue cover are provided. All instructions are given on the day.

Teams requrie 13 people (12 paddlers + a drummer – all teams must have a drummer). The minimum age for all participants is 14 years old, any participant under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Each team will have a minimum of three timed races where your single fastest time only will count for Grand Final qualification and as the racing will be over an international sprint distance of 200 meters, it makes little difference if a novice team is made up male, female or mixed. It’s all about teamwork, rhythm and timing, that’s the key to winning races.

The Grand Final will be a race to the finish where all the dragon boats that can be safely raced together will race one last time and the first team across the line will be declared: Dragon Boat Champions of Dover.

An award ceremony will follow where specially engraved trophies are awarded to the captains of the top three teams and winners’ medals to each member of the winning crew.

12.00 – 13.00 – Lunch break (RNLI Display & Dover Lifeguards Swimming Race)
13.00 – Afternoon Racing Starts
15.30 – Grand Final
16.00 – Presentation Ceremony & Prize Giving
